Foundational Admission

Southern Virginia University maintains clear academic standards for admission and continued enrollment. Academic benchmarks guide the initial review of each application.

Applicants with a cumulative GPA below 2.5 are reviewed through the Foundational Admission process. This review allows the Office of Admissions to consider a broader range of information related to academic readiness, including performance over time and preparation for college-level work.

Evaluation Components

As part of the Foundational Admission review, applicants are required to complete additional steps designed to demonstrate readiness for college-level work. These steps can include:

  • A personal interview
  • A plan for academic success
  • Additional academic transcripts or documentation
  • A plan for academic success
  • Additional academic transcripts or documentation
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Evaluation by an admissions committee, as appropriate
Applicants are guided through the required steps by an admissions counselor, who ensures they understand the expectations and materials needed for review. Admission through this process is based on the applicant’s demonstrated readiness to meet Southern Virginia University’s academic expectations.
