Move-In & Orientation Schedule

Student Athlete Check-In & Orientation (August 12-15, 2025, depending on sport)


  • Check-in and Orientation schedule follows an altered schedule of what is listed below


Check-In Day (August 25, 2025)


  • 9 a.m.–4 p.m. University Check-in: Pick up your welcome packet, Student ID, and iPad bundle (in the Main Hall Lobby)

  • 9 a.m.–4 p.m. University Housing Check-in (at your Residence Hall)

  • 4 a.m.–6 p.m. PSLI (President’s Service & Leadership Institute) Event

  • 6–8 p.m. Dinner & Games Hosted by the Southern Virginia Institute of Religion (at the Institute Building)



Orientation Day (August 26, 2025)


  • 7:30–8:30 a.m. Sunrise Walk with the Cordons

  • 8–10 a.m. Late University Check-in: Pick up your welcome packet, Student ID, and iPad bundle (Main Hall Lobby)

  • 9–9:50 a.m. Honors Program Orientation (Peristyle)

  • 10–10:50 a.m. Official Welcome to SVU: Featuring President Cordon; students and their families are highly encouraged to attend (Knight Arena)

  • 10:50–11:15 a.m. Freshmen Class Photo (Main Hall Front Porch)

  • 11:15 a.m.–Noon University Fair: Learn about university resources (The Quad)

  • 12–2 p.m. Lunch

  • 4–5 p.m. Peer Mentor Event: Gather with your peer mentor group in preparation for Knight 101 (your peer mentor will contact you with location details)

  • 5–7 p.m. Dinner

  • 6:30 p.m. Knight Walk (Institute → The Fields)

  • 7–9 p.m. WSOC: A campus-wide event with food, games, women’s soccer game, and more! (The Fields)

  • 9–10:30 p.m. Knight Dance (The Stadium)


First Day of Classes (August 27, 2025)


  • 9–11 p.m. Outdoor Movie


Friday, August 29, 2025


  • 6–9 p.m. Knightfest (The Quad)


Saturday, August 30, 2025


  • 6–9 p.m. Washington D.C excursion (optional, registration & fee required)


Sunday, August 31, 2025


Monday, September 1, 2025


  • 9 a.m.–Noon Buena Vista Labor Day Parade (Student-led participation)
