Southern Virginia University is seeking a passionate and experienced Women’s Basketball Head Coach to lead and develop its women’s basketball program. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, tactical coaching, player development, and fostering a culture of excellence on the court and in the community. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to build a competitive and mission-aligned program.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a strategic vision for the women’s basketball program in alignment with the university’s mission and values.
• Actively recruit, mentor, and develop student-athletes who excel both athletically and academically.
• Organize and oversee team practices, skill development sessions, and game-day coaching, including scouting and film analysis.
• Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, integrity, and personal growth.
• Schedule and manage the season’s competition schedule, including travel logistics for away games and tournaments.
• Ensure strict compliance with all university, conference, and NCAA/national governing body policies and regulations.
• Oversee and manage the program’s budget, equipment, and basketball facilities.
• Cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, and the local community to enhance program support and attendance.
• Assist student-athletes in their personal and academic development, ensuring they remain on track for graduation.
• Coordinate with athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches to support player health, injury prevention, and physical conditioning.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Proven coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop high-caliber student-athletes.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to the mission and values of Southern Virginia University.

Physical Requirements & Availability

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to carry, pull, push, and lift equipment necessary for training and competition (e.g., ball racks, training aids).
• Must be able to stand for long periods and actively participate in practices and games.
