Men’s Wrestling Head Coach
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for the men’s wrestling program in alignment with the university’s mission and values.
- Actively recruit, mentor, and develop student-athletes who excel both athletically and academically.
- Organize and oversee team practices, technical drilling, and match preparation, focusing on individual skill development and strategy.
- Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, integrity, and personal growth.
- Schedule and manage dual matches and tournaments, including travel logistics and weigh-in coordination.
- Ensure strict compliance with all university, conference, and NCAA/national governing body policies and regulations.
- Oversee and manage the program’s budget, and equipment.
- Cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, and the various wrestling communities to enhance program support.
- Assist student-athletes in their personal and academic development, ensuring they remain on track for graduation.
- Coordinate with athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches to support weight management, injury prevention, and peak performance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Proven coaching experience in wrestling, preferably at the collegiate or elite high school level.
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, weight management protocols, and match strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop high-caliber student-athletes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Southern Virginia University.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to carry, pull, push, and lift equipment necessary for training and competition (e.g., wrestling mats, scales, training aids).
- Must be able to stand for long periods and actively participate in practices, including demonstrating techniques on the mat.
