Director of Athletic Communications

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy to enhance the visibility and reputation of Southern Virginia University’s athletic programs
- Manage and update Knightathletics.com, ensuring it remains current, informative, and user-friendly
- Serve as the primary media contact for all athletic events, providing timely and accurate information to local, regional, and national media outlets
- Utilize web management platforms, including SideArm Sports, StatCrew, and PrestoSports, to manage athletic communications effectively
- Create engaging content for various platforms, including press releases, feature stories, and social media, to showcase the achievements and stories of our student-athletes and teams
- Lead, train, and manage athletic communications staff, student workers, and interns
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including coaches, staff, and administrators, to ensure consistent and effective messaging across all communication channels
- Oversee game day media operations, including press box management, live stats, interviews, and coordination of photography and videography
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance the university’s athletic communication efforts
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sports communication, preferably at the collegiate level
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to craft compelling and accurate content
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to communication and media relations
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by the athletic schedule
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of SideArm Sports, Presto Sports, and Genius Sports
- Experience leading an athletic communications team
