Thomas Bell is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics here at Southern Virginia University.
He joined the faculty in 2016 after serving as a visiting professor at Brigham Young University for three years where he taught and did research. While at BYU, Thomas volunteered weekly at Math Circle where local kids would come enjoy more exciting math not normally taught in school. He also volunteered each summer at BYU’s math camp.
Thomas received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oregon in 2013, his master’s degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University in 2007, and his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University in 2005. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 2001-2003 in the Denmark, Copenhagen mission.

Thomas and his wife Melissa live in Buena Vista with their puppy Ellie.
