Alan Whitehead is an instructor of psychology at Southern Virginia University. He has taught coursework in Academic Skills, Business, and Psychology at Southern Virginia since 2013.
Prior to joining the faculty, Whitehead previously served as Director of Admissions. In his life before higher education, he had a successful career as an insurance broker with Marsh & McLennan Inc working with the Private Client Services division.
Whitehead is currently a PhD Candidate studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology. His dissertation research will focus on principles from Positive Psychology and Humor Studies. He earned an MBA with concentration in I/O Psychology from Argosy University in Denver, CO; his undergraduate degree in Business Management was earned at BYU-Idaho. While an undergraduate student, he played varsity basketball for Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) where he was an NJCAA Academic All-American. In 2013 Whitehead served as the assistant men’s basketball coach for Southern Virginia.
He and his wife, Nina, reside in Buena Vista with their daughter, Azalea; dog named Maple, cat named Bing Crosby, rabbit named Oscar, and a few thousand (unnamed) gnats.
