LIberal Arts | 2008
I fell in love with SVU even before I arrived on campus in 2004, and what I experienced there shaped the person I am today by helping me to first realize the dreams I had, and then aided me in beginning to accomplish them. SVU has this incredible way of expanding our horizons and helping us do things we never thought we could do. I planned to major in Liberal Arts and minor in Music, but I added a second minor in English after the professors and the subject matter completely drew me in (those of you who took classes from Professors Dransfield and Sheffield can relate, I’m sure). I also had the chance to promote SVU by being a traveling Student Ambassador, SVU’s first Senate Secretary, the Vice President of Campus Programming, and during my senior year served as the Student Association President before graduating in 2008. I also enjoyed working in the mail room, singing in the Chamber Choir, playing violin in the summer musical orchestras, and participating in travel study trips to DC, England, and France, along with many other things that I never dreamed I could be involved in.
I currently live in the Washington, D.C. area with my husband and my two children. I continue to give back to my community by running a volunteer art program in our local elementary school, focusing especially on students in the special education population. I work as a government contract for Language on Demand as a transcriptionist for different government agencies, as well as ElevenLabs as a Producer working to bring subtitles, captions, and transcripts to popular podcasts and other media
“The work ethic and values I learned at SVU have continued to guide my endeavors in both my professional and personal life. I continue to use skills and abilities that were fostered at SVU to serve in my community, as well as foster relationships with those that I work with both in the office and during volunteer opportunities. I look forward to serving as Secretary of the Alumni Association to help facilitate positive change, connect with alumni across all graduation years and walks of life, and finding ways to build a stronger sense of belonging for all SVU Knights.”
