“I grew up in a suburban area in Mesa, AZ. My parents grew up extremely poor. They understood what it means to work hard to earn what you have and they distilled that into my three siblings and me. School, sports, and music were the focus of my childhood and taught me discipline and self-control.As I watched both of my parents work in the medical field (my father is a PA working in addiction medicine, and my mother is a pediatric dental hygienist), I realized early on that I wanted to be a doctor. Helping people feel better and personally improve always brings me joy, but there are a million ways to help people who are not related to medicine; lucky for me, medicine just happens to be my personal obsession.I am currently a fourth-year junior majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Psychology. Later in my career, I would like to start up my own pharmaceutical company whose main goal would be to lower the cost of life-saving medications (such as insulin) to make sure those who need it receive it. Further research would also take place regarding diseases with poor to no treatment in order to lower the suffering of those afflicted while being able to practice what I love.Scholarships enable me to pursue this career path and ultimately be a factor in saving and improving others’ lives. My wife and I are both full- time students, and we both are pursuing graduate school, so we are grateful for any scholarships and support! T”
