Open Rank Professor of Data Science
Full-time
Southern Virginia University seeks applications for an Open Rank Professor of Data Science to begin January or August 2027. This position is intended for a data science faculty member with the breadth to teach across computer science, mathematics, and data science at the undergraduate level. Faculty in this position will typically teach four courses per semester and should be prepared to teach a variety of courses based on their expertise and the needs of the program. Because we are a small undergraduate university, faculty in this position should be comfortable teaching a broad range of courses; over the course of a year, a faculty member may teach as many as eight different course preparations. Computer science courses may include computational data science, artificial intelligence, data structures, algorithms, databases, web development, software engineering, operating systems, and introductory programming in Python. Mathematics courses may include statistics, college algebra, trigonometry, calculus, discrete mathematics, and linear algebra. We do not expect any one candidate to be able to teach all of these courses, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute across multiple areas. As a faith-based university, Southern Virginia University seeks faculty who support and contribute to its mission and values. The position is open rank and may be filled at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
