Open-Rank Professor of Biology

Southern Virginia University seeks applications for an Open-Rank Professor of Biology to begin January 2027. This position requires teaching undergraduate courses to support the biology, biochemistry, and environmental studies programs. Assigned courses taught may include introductory biology (majors and nonmajors), environmental science, botany, and ecology. Other courses may be assigned based upon the needs of the program and the interests/expertise of the candidate.
Responsibilities
- Teach biology courses including labs (~3-4 per semester)
- Develop and refine course materials
- Advise and mentor students
- Fulfill faculty service assignments
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Biology (or related field)
- The ability to teach undergraduate courses in biology
- Strong communicator and a love of teaching
Preferred Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have either a PhD in biology, ecology, botany, environmental science, or related field
- Experience teaching in higher education or Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school
