Athletic Trainer

Southern Virginia University is seeking to hire a talented and motivated Athletic Trainer to assist student athletes with injury prevention, injury recovery, and general development and maintenance of health and fitness. Adaptability and attention to detail are critical. Southern Virginia University is a rapidly growing, private residential University. Responsibilities
- Conducts an initial assessment of an athlete’s injury or illness; determines whether athletes should be referred to physician for specific diagnosis and treatment
- Provides first aid or emergency care when needed
- Bandages, tapes, or applies ice to injured body parts as needed for specific injuries
- Assists athletes in performing and completing rehabilitative exercises
- Evaluates the readiness of athletes to play; approves participation in sports when appropriate
- Provides instruction concerning proper use of equipment
- Provides information and instruction to coaches, athletes, and medical personnel regarding care and prevention of injuries
- Implements comprehensive illness and athletic injury prevention practices
- Travels with athletics teams to sporting events to be available as needed
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in athletic training or closely related field
- Must be Nationally Certified as and Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association- Board of Certification
- Licensed or eligible for Licensure in the State of Virginia as a Licensed Athletic Trainer
- CPR certification
- Thorough understanding of injury treatment and prevention
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
- Must be able to carry, pull, push, and lift equipment necessary for care
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
