Job Summary

Admissions Advisors provide support and guidance for prospective-students throughout the admissions process. Southern Virginia University has an immediate opening for a part-time Assistant Cheerleading Coach. The Assistant Cheerleading Coach will be responsible for managing the Cheerleading program under the direction of the Head Spirit Squad Coach.

Key Responsibilities

The Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Southern Virginia University seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Computer Science to join its Computer Science Program. The successful candidate will teach a wide range of Computer Science courses and must be highly committed to excellence in undergraduate education.

The typical teaching load is four courses per semester. Small class sizes optimize instructor-student interaction; hands-on activities translate theory into practice. Because the Program is entrepreneurial and market driven, its academic programs respond to industry dynamics. Consequently, the College particularly values industry and other practical experience for its faculty and students. While Southern Virginia does not have a research requirement, there is an expectation of ongoing professional growth and involvement with students in undergraduate research projects. Additional responsibilities include course/curriculum development, student advising, industry outreach, student team/project supervision, and service to the program, division and university.

The ideal candidate will have a proven teaching record, industry software development experience and a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Mining, Data Science or related field. Southern Virginia University seeks applications for an assistant professor of theatre to begin fall 2016. Responsibilities include designing scenery and lighting, teaching courses in stagecraft and scenic and lighting design, supervising set construction, providing technical direction for department productions, advising theatre students, and mentoring student designers. Teaching may also include courses in theatre history and literature. Our small, vibrant program produces four main stage shows per year.

Job Description

As a Food Service Aid you will assist with food preparation, dish washing, and general cleaning in kitchen and cafeteria. Food service workers have the option of working early in the morning until evening. Plenty of weekend hours are also available.

Job Description

As a Student Library Assistant your duties will include checking books in/out, shelving/organizing books, collecting money for copies, inventory (shelf reading), answering basic library questions and special projects. Hours are available from early morning to late at night.

Students who have work or volunteer experience in libraries are highly preferred and will be expected to become experts in all library resources.

Pay Rate: $7.25/hour

As an on-campus tutor you will work approximately two hours per week during the afternoons/evenings tutoring a specific subject. Faculty recommendations are required.

Payment Information

The University pays it employees every other Friday using direct deposit. The University no longer issues paper paychecks or paystubs. Paystubs and W-2 forms may be accessed via our Dominion Payroll Services employee self-service portal. A link to create your self-service account will be sent to your student email address when you submit your employment paperwork through our eHire employment portal. Retired Volunteers

Since the university’s inception, volunteers have been drawn to Southern Virginia’s uniquely fulfilling model of small classes and personalized education that allows retired educators to impact the lives of individual students. After their successful careers in academia and elsewhere, these retired volunteers provide powerful examples of service and allow the university to expand without raising tuition for students or straining resources for current professors or programs.

Retirees who volunteer at Southern Virginia enjoy the idyllic experience of life on campus in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. The university provides them with complimentary apartment-style housing and meals in the university’s Dining Hall. They are welcome to participate in the full life of the university – attending concerts, recitals, plays, athletic competitions, and student life events – and to use the library and recreational facilities. On weekends volunteers frequently visit historic sites in and around Virginia, including Monticello and Civil War sites, Williamsburg and Washington, DC. At least once a month volunteers gather for a Family Home Evening or potluck dinner. On Sundays they usually serve in one of the local Latter-day Saint wards.

Areas of Need

As teachers, volunteers are most needed in the following areas: art (especially 3-D design), business management, chemistry, child development, classical languages (Greek and Latin), communications, economics, foreign languages (French, German, and Italian), health and wellness, mathematics, physical education, physics, and psychology.
