Visiting Assistant Professor of Writing

Southern Virginia University invites applications for a full-time writing instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor of writing to begin August 2019. This posting is for a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

To be eligible for this position, candidates must have, at a minimum, a master’s degree in English or writing. Preference will be given to candidates whose MA or Ph.D. studies focus on rhetoric and composition.

Southern Virginia seeks a candidate to teach basic writing, freshman composition, and advanced writing courses that feature a rhetorical writing curriculum. Expertise and teaching experience in basic writing or professional writing will enhance an application. Applicants will teach four courses each semester during the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters. Prior teaching experience, relevant professional experience, and a strong commitment to student learning are strong positives. Additional responsibilities may include committee work and academic advising.
