Southern Virginia University is seeking a counselor for Fall Semester 2021. The Counseling Center Clinician will provide individual, couples, and group counseling and crisis intervention services for SVU students utilizing brief therapy models. Successful candidates will also be experienced providing treatment in crisis intervention and in working with diverse populations. Knowledge and experience with the psychological concerns of college students required. Counseling techniques offered will respond with sensitivity and confidentially to the diverse needs of SVU students. Referral and resource information will be maintained as well as Counseling Center clinical records using an EHR/ERM. The job will be filled as an 11 month position.
A Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Counseling/Clinical Psychology or related field and license or license eligibility in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Supervision towards independent licensure may be provided. Counseling experience required, with preference given to candidates with experience in a college/university counseling center setting. A qualified candidate will possess well-developed clinical assessment skills and high standards of ethical behavior. Moreover, a qualified candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, the counseling team, and with other departments within the university. Strong interpersonal skills and technological capabilities are needed. Knowledge of developmental issues of college students and demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural issues required.
