Professor of Computer Science

The Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Southern Virginia University seeks a full-time member of the faculty in computer science to join its computer science program. The successful candidate will teach a wide range of computer science courses and must be highly committed to excellence in undergraduate education.

  • The typical teaching load is four courses per semester. Small class sizes optimize instructor-student interaction; hands-on activities translate theory into practice. The computer science program is entrepreneurial and market driven and responds to industry dynamics. Consequently, the program particularly values industry and other practical experience for its faculty and students. Additional responsibilities include course/curriculum development, student advising, industry outreach, student team/project supervision, and service to the program, division and university.
  • The ideal candidate will have a proven teaching record, industry software development experience and an M.S. or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or related field. Candidates with significant industry experience and professional accomplishments, but without an advanced degree, will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Rank is open, and will be determined based on qualifications of the successful candidate.
  • Please send applications materials to provost@svu.edu. Applications must include the submission of a letter of interest specifically addressing the desired qualifications, a resume/CV and at least one letter of recommendation.

Review of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Southern Virginia University is an equal opportunity employer, and especially encourages women and members of racial and ethnic minority groups to apply.
