Open-Rank, Full-time, Teaching Position in Biology

The Division of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Southern Virginia University seeks an Open-Rank, Full-time, Teaching Position to join its Biology Program. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in undergraduate education and the mission of Southern Virginia University. We are seeking a broadly trained biologist who can teach introductory biology courses for both majors and non-majors. Opportunities for teaching upper division courses in more specialized subjects such as botany, zoology, human anatomy & physiology, ecology, or other areas of the candidate’s interest may be available as determined by the Program Coordinator.
The typical teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester. Southern Virginia University is known for small class sizes that optimize instructor-student interaction, which create opportunities for active, hands-on learning. The Biology Program serves a growing number of students applying to professional programs in the medical and health field, but also includes students interested in academia, research, and secondary education. Additional responsibilities include student advising and university service.
The ideal candidate must have a Master’s degree (minimum) or Ph.D (preferred) in biology or a related field and demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness. Candidates with knowledge and experience in best educational practices in STEM fields are encouraged to apply. Rank will be determined based on qualifications of the successful candidate. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
