Job Description

Southern Virginia University seeks a Director of IT Services. Southern Virginia University is a small, growing, tech-forward university aligned with the principles and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. IT Services plays a critical role in helping the institution achieve its mission to “gather faithful Latter-day Saints and like-minded students, lift them in intellect, character, and spirituality, and launch them into successful lives and careers.” We are an institution experiencing a period of rapid growth and opportunity, within which IT Services has played and will continue to play a critical role.

For example, our 1:1 Apple Education initiative (LaunchPad), has led us to twice being designated an Apple Distinguished School—one of around 20 higher ed institutions to gain this distinction. Other opportunities include the recent expansion of our on-site broadcasting to provide the streaming of most home events across 26 sports teams, campus-wide internet infrastructure improvements, the development and maintenance of student clubs like the 3D printing club, and the integration of many other services and solutions helping position Southern Virginia as a leader in the technological landscape of higher education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience supervising workers in an IT environment
  • Strong working knowledge of IT systems and structures
  • Ability to execute IT projects
  • Willingness to learn, counsel, and assist with other aspects of campus leadership

Preferred Abilities

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience managing teams and supervising employees
  • Ability and willingness to work with teams across the university

Responsibilities

  • Assist the CIO in setting and executing technological strategy, policy, and procedure that is aligned with the school’s mission and with the vision of the President
  • Manage the IT Services team, which includes the following areas:
    • Infrastructure Services
    • Customer Support Services
    • Software Development Services
    • Solution Architecture, Acquisition, and Implementation Services
    • Cybersecurity Services
    • Digital Media Technical Operations Services (Campus A/V and Sports Broadcasting)
  • Manage the IT Services budget in consultation with the school’s Chief Information Officer
  • Maintain a productive, open work culture within the IT department
  • Interface and navigate fluidly with leaders and other stakeholders across campus
