Director of Bands

Southern Virginia University seeks applications for a Director of Bands starting in the Fall of 2023. Major responsibilities include recruiting, mentoring students, development of a vibrant band program, and collaborating with music faculty and other departments.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in building and maintaining successful band programs, exceptional conducting skills, versatility in repertoire selection, and instructional experience. The position will require close collaboration with the arts, athletics, academic colleagues, and administrative bodies. Applicants should additionally be prepared to show evidence of directing and mentoring students with varying levels of experience. DMA or PhD in Music or related fields is preferred. Applicants with equivalent experience in conducting symphonic, concert, and athletic bands will also be considered. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
