Dance Program Coordinator

Southern Virginia University seeks applicants for a full time position as Dance Program Coordinator in the Division of Fine & Performing Arts, beginning August 2020. The successful applicant will be creating a new dance program, and instructing in several areas such as ballet, tap, jazz, theatrical, ballroom, hip-hop, etc. (depending on the applicant’s strengths & student demand). They will also collaborate with the music theatre program choreographing dance numbers in our musical theatre productions, and teach a variety of dance-related academic courses as needed/available.

  • Create & recruit to a new dance program
  • Instruct in several dance styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, theatrical, ballroom, hip-hop, etc. based on applicants strengths & university needs
  • Choreograph and stage musical numbers for our theatre program productions
  • Teach dance related academic courses to dance students & the general Southern Virginia student body
  • Serve as an academic advisor as needed
  • Design a Dance concentration, as well as collaborate in the creation of a Music/Dance/Theatre concentration
  • Participate in other faculty related duties under the direction of the provost


  • Masters (or higher) in Dance preferred, or commensurate professional experience
  • Experience recruiting to a dance program
  • Choreography experience
