The Teacher Education Program at Southern Virginia University invites applications for an assistant professor of education beginning August 2020. Responsibilities include teaching Foundations of Education, The Exceptional Learner and other courses as needed; managing fieldwork experiences; serving as a liaison to the local K-12 education community; supervising student teachers; performing a variety of administrative duties; academic advising and mentoring of students; and serving as a licensure program administrator.
Qualified candidates should have a PhD or EdD in education and K-12 teaching experience. Candidates who have middle and secondary teaching experience and also special education experience are encouraged to apply.
Southern Virginia University’s Teacher Education Program is a small, undergraduate program offering endorsements in elementary, middle and secondary teaching. Applicants should comment on their understanding of, and willingness to support, the mission of the school. Southern Virginia serves primarily students who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but successful applicants do not need to be members of the Church. The Teacher Education Program at Southern Virginia University operates as part of the Rockbridge Teacher Education Consortium with Washington and Lee University.
