Assistant Controller

Southern Virginia University is seeking a talented and motivated Assistant Controller to help manage the finances of this rapidly growing educational institution. Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, math, business administration or a related field required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, proven ability to work independently and with others
  • CPA or master’s degree in accounting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience in non-profit accounting

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the day-to-day supervision of the controller’s office
  • Provides financial information to management through research and analysis
  • Assists with the preparation of University financial statements
  • Reconciles financial transactions including bank accounts and accounts payable
  • Conducts internal financial reviews of financial controls
  • Assists in the preparation of the University budget
  • Assists University financial audit preparations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Led by the Controller, the Controller’s Office is the financial hub of the University. As a unified and motivated team, we work collaboratively to manage the University’s finances as we achieve our mission of self-reliance. Our efforts overlap with and enhance the work of various offices across campus to attract, recruit, and retain students, and to raise funds for the University.
