In 2020, Gibbons assisted in implementing the processes for the University’s two COVID-19 testing sites—rapid testing and symptomatic testing. Since then, she has overseen the COVID Resource Center and Wellness Center and coordinates any quarantine operations.
Gibbons began her role as executive assistant in 2014. Prior to that, she worked for the Southern Virginia Institute of Religion from 2009-14 and in the University’s offices of student life and housing from 2005–08.
Before joining Southern Virginia University, Gibbons’ previous experience includes teaching courses in social and cultural anthropology at Brigham Young University and at the College of Eastern Utah. She spent three years as a full-time resident director at BYU and gained experience teaching courses on student development and wellness in conjunction with the Counseling and Development Center.
She spent much of her first year in Buena Vista, Va. developing and directing an after-school art and music program as a volunteer at Parry McCluer Middle School. Gibbons has enjoyed sponsoring small events and gatherings but also has directed annual community celebrations and fundraisers with civic leaders. She currently holds a role on the city of Buena Vista Planning Commission.
