Campus Life

We strive to provide an inclusive, fun, and faith-supportive campus environment for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and like-minded students.

A Culture of Spirituality

The defining feature of our educational model is a commitment to the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Classroom discussions are informed not only by textbooks and the best of secular thinking but also by scripture and the teachings of Church leaders. Gospel principles are at the center of everything we do.

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”Matthew 5:6

Code of Honor

At Southern Virginia University, no one stands alone in upholding their beliefs. The Code of Honor ensures that a culture of honesty and religious freedom is practiced on campus. Everyone can feel comfortable knowing that high standards of morality are respected. Read the Code of Honor here.

Devotionals & Forums

To strengthen the value of the educational and spiritual experience for students, faculty and staff, Southern Virginia hosts weekly devotionals and forums. Guest speakers from various disciplines come to discuss a variety of subjects including spirituality, ethics or important life lessons.

“Learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in thy youth to keep the commandments of God.”Alma 37:35

Institute & YSA Wards

In 2009 the Church completed construction on a brand new meetinghouse that accommodates a YSA stake and the largest running daytime Institute east of the Wasatch Front. It remains one of the most used buildings on campus, both for spiritual growth and recreational activities. Register now for institute.

Missionary Focus

Missionaries are always on our mind. With our $1,500 returned missionary scholarship, flexible deadlines, and the ability to apply before a mission to guarantee pre-mission rates, you can truly say that Southern Virginia has a focus on missionaries.

Service

We encourage our students to get involved in organized service both on and off campus. In the classroom, on stage or on the practice field, our students exemplify what it means to lose themselves in something greater than themselves.
