SVU Theatre Presents: The Thanksgiving Play

November 15 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Summary:
A hilarious comedy about earnest, progressive-minded school teachers attempting to create a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving pageant.

The Play:
What happens when a group of well-meaning, “woke” educators try to create a politically correct, culturally sensitive Thanksgiving play with zero Indigenous representation? A hilarious disaster in the making.

Recently featured on Broadway and nominated for multiple awards, The Thanksgiving Play is a fast-paced, smart, and side-splittingly funny satire that takes a bold look at performative allyship, historical myths, and the chaos of trying way too hard to get it “right.”

Written by acclaimed Native American playwright Larissa FastHorse, The Thanksgiving Play is a comedy as thought-provoking as it is entertaining, with a perfect blend of humor and cultural commentary — just in time for the season of gratitude and reflection.
The Playwright:
Larissa FastHorse is a MacArthur Genius Grant recipient and one of the most prominent Native American playwrights in the U.S. The Thanksgiving Play is one of the first plays by an Indigenous woman to be produced on Broadway and has received national acclaim for its originality and insight.

Performances:
Fri & Sat, Nov 14-15 & Thu-Sat, Nov 20-22 at 7:30 PM
