Southern Virginia University seeks to hire a Director of Human Resources. The Director of Human Resources is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resource management, policies, and programs within the institution. This individual provides strategic direction and support to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of HR services that align with the University's mission, values, and goals. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to senior management, faculty, and staff on matters related to HR, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment conducive to organizational excellence.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Human Resources
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR practices and regulations, including employment law and compensation
  • Experience managing projects and teams
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive HR information and issues
  • Ability to build positive relationships with employees, students, and others
  • High-level interpersonal skills, situational awareness, and judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software applications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Human Resource Management or a relevant field
  • SHRM-CP or other relevant HR certification
  • Leadership experience in Higher Education
  • Experience creating and implementing organization policies

  • Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and initiatives aligned with
    the University's mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to forecast HR needs, anticipate challenges, and identify opportunities for organizational improvement.
  • Oversee all onboarding processes, including recruiting, job postings, offer letters, and background checks
  • Oversee payroll and benefits staff and processes
  • Develop effective talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop a diverse and skilled workforce.
  • Implement performance management systems to assess employee performance, provide feedback, and support professional growth and development.
  • Serve as a resource for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and
    best practices.
  • Address employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances in a fair and timely manner, promoting a positive work culture and fostering employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
    governing employment practices.
  • Develop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with legal requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and manage the HR department budget, allocating resources effectively to support departmental goals and priorities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including benefits consortium, government agencies, and professional associations.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
