Students planning to participate in an international Travel Study program should log in to MySVU and sign up on the Travel Study page to submit an Intent to Travel form with a $200 deposit. Students may opt out of paying the deposit until October 1. However, if Financial Services does not receive the $200 deposit by October 1, the student will be moved to the bottom of the wait list and potentially lose their spot. All sign ups after October 1 require a $200 deposit.
Students should use this form to apply for international Travel Study programs after they have submitted their online Intent to Travel form on MySVU and a $200 deposit to Student Financial Services.
Individuals who are not students at Southern Virginia but wish to participate in a Travel Study program should fill out this form and email or return it to the Travel Study Department in Main 221.
Students who can no longer participate in the program they signed up for must cancel their sign up. To do this, visit the MySVU Travel Study page and select the Cancellation Form. Some trips have a no-backing-out period during which students are obligated to pay in full, so all cancellations should be made as soon as possible.
Students who wish to extend their trip abroad rather than returning with the group at the program’s scheduled return date should fill out this form and return it to Travel Study.
For students participating in Travel Study programs during the Fall or Spring semesters, tuition is covered as a part of regular full-time payment. Students who are not full time (less than twelve credits) must pay the per credit cost in addition to the program cost. During the Summer terms, students will pay the per credit tuition costs in addition to the program fee.
When students sign up for an international Travel Study program, they must make a deposit of $200 and turn it in with their online Intent to Travel Form. This deposit goes directly towards the cost of the trip. For example, if the trip costs $1,000 and a student pays the $200 deposit, the remaining balance is then $800.
$150 of the deposit will be refunded if students submit their cancellation form (see above) online within two weeks of signing up. If students cancel more than two weeks after signing up, the entire deposit is forfeited and they must pay for any fees incurred by Travel Study on their behalf at that point.
For domestic programs, students do not need to pay a $200 deposit or application. Instead, they simply need to sign up for the program on the MySVU Travel Study page. The student’s account will then be billed for the program along with regular tuition and fees.
Students may pay for their program through MySVU. Students’ parents may also pay for the program by using the payment portal on the Southern Virginia home page, calling the Business Office (Student Financial Services), or by using MySVU with the student’s permission to access their account. All students must pay in full prior to the trip leaving. Students may consult their billing statement on MySVU or contact the Travel Study office or Student Financial Services to check any outstanding Travel Study balance.
Southern Virginia University offers a Travel Study Voucher to all students who have completed 56 credit hours at Southern Virginia. The voucher allows students to earn free or discounted travel through Southern Virginia Travel Study. The voucher discounts the cost of any Travel Study program, domestic or foreign, by $400.
Only currently enrolled full-time students who have completed 56 credit hours at Southern Virginia are eligible for the voucher. Students who believe they are eligible for a voucher but have not received one should contact the Registrar’s office for availability. Students may also contact the Travel Study office, check their transcript (through MySVU) for the number of credits received, or check their billing statement to confirm whether or not the voucher has already been used.
Southern Virginia welcomes non-Southern Virginia students who share our values and are willing to uphold the Southern Virginia Code of Honor to join us on any Travel Study program. While Southern Virginia students will have first priority for registration and participation, we invite others to fill any unused student spaces.

Continuing education participants will receive no university credit for participation in Travel Study or its associated coursework.
