Take a bike hike this summer from Maryland to Georgetown through the beautiful landscape of the east.
This summer, bike hike along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal, a historic trail that follows the Potomac River from Cumberland, Maryland to Georgetown. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and many historic sites along this 185 mile long dirt road. The trail is not difficult, primarily flat, and appeals to bikers of all skill levels.
Students will stay in tents and cabins throughout the trip. All meals are included.
Students will travel to and from various trip locations by bikes (included in the trip costs) and other methods of transportation with accompanying Southern Virginia vans.
Program fees include use of bikes, all additional transportation, lodging, food, and all entrance fees for planned excursions. Students are responsible for any personal expenses. Remember, students with 56 credit hours at Southern Virginia are eligible for a $400 voucher that can be applied towards the cost of the program!

Register for PER 175R or HIS 175R through MySVU. Your student account will be billed for the trip and can be paid directly through MySVU.
|May 1||Leave Buena Vista early in the morning and drive to Cumberland, MD. Bike from Cumberland to Hancock (65 mi.) Lunch provided on the trail every day and supper at night. Check in to hotel.|
|May 2||Get breakfast at the hotel. Bike from Hancock, MD to Harper’s Ferry, WV (60mi.)|
|May 3||Visit historic sites in Harper’s Ferry, Antietam Battleground, and go on a ghost tour of Harper’s Ferry that night.|
|May 4||Bike to DC (60 mi.) and leave for home.|
