Southern Virginia University's 20th annual Education Conference on June 3 and 4 began with a keynote address by Sister Kristen Oaks, who was also joined by her husband, Elder Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Nearly 1,000 alumni, students, faculty, staff, graduates and their families, and community members gathered at Southern Virginia University’s 148th Commencement exercises to celebrate the accomplishments of 100 graduating seniors last week.
The senior speakers selected to represent the Southern Virginia University graduating class of 2016 are Rosevelt Kpainay, Madeleine Gail Rex, Wright Noel and Don Harsh.
Ken Niumatalolo, head football coach at the United States Naval Academy who was featured in the 2014 documentary, “Meet the Mormons,” will deliver the final forum address of Southern Virginia University’s 2015-2016 academic year on Friday, April 22, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center.
Dr. Dave Ulrich, an award-winning thought leader in human resources and management education named “the father of modern HR,” and Dr. Wendy Ulrich, a psychologist and bestselling author, will address graduates, faculty, staff, students and friends of Southern Virginia University at the 2016 Commencement exercises on Thursday, May 5, at 10 a.m. in front of the university’s Main Hall in Buena Vista, Va.
Barbara Crawford, professor of art at Southern Virginia University, will deliver the annual Elton Lecture, titled “The Last Picture Show: New Lessons from Old Masters,” on Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center.
Colonel Brett A. Barraclough, assistant deputy for acquisition system management, will deliver a forum address titled “Facing Combat in a Complex World: Panama to Afghanistan and Beyond” on Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia University.
Michael Gibbons, student support director and an adjunct instructor of family and child development at Southern Virginia University, will deliver a forum address titled "A Paradigm of Positivity: Hardwiring the Brain for Happiness" on Friday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia.
Three new faculty members who began working at Southern Virginia University in fall 2015 will speak in a forum on Friday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia.
