Five Join Southern Virginia’s Board of Trustees

Southern Virginia University President Rodney K. Smith is pleased to announce the appointment of five new members to its board of trustees—Ned C. Hill, H. Scott McKinley, L. Hugh Redd, J. Mitchel Scott and Madison Sowell.
“We have as fine a board as is possible, and we are thrilled to welcome Ned, Scott, Hugh, Mitch and Madison,” said President Smith. “Each has experience and passion for our liberal arts curriculum.”
Ned C. Hill is the National Advisory Council professor of finance at Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. He served as dean of the school from 1998 to 2008. He also was a finance professor at Indiana University and an assistant professor at Cornell University. He graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Utah, and received both an M.S. in chemistry and Ph.D. in finance from Cornell University.
H. Scott McKinley is senior vice president of Laureate Education, Inc. He also was CEO and co-founder of Neumont University. In addition, he was a managing director and founder of JP Morgan Partners private equity operations in the Asia Pacific Region and vice president of Bankers Trust Company. He received a B.A. from Brigham Young University in international relations and an M.B.A. from New York University in finance and marketing.
L. Hugh Redd is the chief financial officer and senior vice president of General Dynamics Corporation. He has worked for the company since 1986, serving as a senior financial analyst and also as vice president and controller of General Dynamics Land Systems in Sterling Heights, Mich. He holds a B.S. in accounting from Brigham Young University and a masters degree in tax accounting from the University of Texas.
J. Mitchel Scott is chairman and CEO of ProductiveTeams, Inc., in Greensboro, NC. From 1992 to 2002, he was vice president of advertising and brand development at Thomasville Furniture Industries. He also worked at Armstrong Industries as the general manager of advertising and promotion in its floor and carpet divisions. He graduated from George Washington University with a B.S. in economics.
Madison Sowell is director of the honors program and an associate dean of undergraduate education at Brigham Young University. He received a B.S. from BYU in Italian and comparative literature and an M.S. and PhD. from Harvard University. He also teaches Italian and comparative literature at BYU.
