Former Vice President to Give Devotional Dec. 6

Walter Ralls, who previously served as a vice president of Southern Virginia University, will give a devotional titled “Endure to the End” on Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center at Southern Virginia.

Ralls has served in a number of positions at Southern Virginia since 1996. He served as dean of admissions, vice president of administration and finance, vice president of student life and enrollment, associate vice president for development, and adjunct professor of business. Following his retirement in 2010, he served as a volunteer defensive line coach in the university’s football program for two seasons.

He also has served the U.S. Navy in several positions including naval flight officer and supply officer. He served in the USS Yorktown, USS Independence, USS Cleveland, and the Navy Recruiting Command Headquarters.

He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Long Beach State University in 1971 and a master’s degree in business administration from Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1988.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ralls has served as elder’s quorum president, high priest group leader, as bishop of two different wards in the Rockbridge County area, and, most recently, as president of the Buena Vista Virginia Stake.

Community members and Southern Virginia faculty, staff and students are invited to hear forum and devotional speakers each Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the Stoddard Center. Recordings of past forum and devotional speeches may be accessed online.
