Southern Virginia University invites applications for a full-time position in mathematics to begin fall 2017 at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or a related field by August 2016. Candidates with a background in pure mathematics, algebra, analysis, or statistics will be given preference.
We seek applicants who can teach and encourage students of diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students and students with varying mathematical preparation. The candidate must have recent experience teaching college level mathematics and also demonstrate excellence in teaching, with a willingness to incorporate active learning strategies in the classroom. Experience teaching statistics is a plus. The typical teaching load is 12 credits of undergraduate level mathematics (usually 4 three-credit courses) each semester, from major courses to introductory service courses, including those for educators. Southern Virginia emphasizes excellence in teaching, but responsibilities include advising, university service, and professional development/scholarly activity.
