Southern Virginia University seeks a talented and enthusiastic individual to serve as a Student Mental Health Clinician and Director of the Student Support Center. The Student Mental Health Clinician provides individual counseling for SVU students utilizing brief therapy models. Successful candidates will also be experienced providing treatment in crisis intervention, brief therapy, and in working with diverse populations and with common psychological concerns of college students. Counseling techniques offered will respond with sensitivity and confidentially to the diverse needs of SVU students. Referral and resource information will be maintained as well as Student Support Center statistics and clinical records. The individual will also serve as Clinical Director and will provide supervision to unlicensed counselors. The position will start August of 2017.
A Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Counseling/Clinical Psychology or related field and independent license to practice as a mental health services provider in the commonwealth of Virginia is required. Counseling experience required, and the ability and credentials to supervise other counselors, with preference given to candidates with experience in a college/university counseling center setting. The candidate must possess well-developed clinical assessment skills and high standards of ethical behavior and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and with other departments within the university. Strong interpersonal skills and technological capabilities are needed. Knowledge of developmental issues of college students and demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural issues required.
