The business program at Southern Virginia University offers the most popular degree on campus. Under the direction of President Reed Wilcox, an entrepreneur himself, as well as a former partner and director at Boston Consulting Group, and a mission president, the program has been making leaps and bounds, particularly in outcomes for the graduates. The business program is at the beginning of a surge of new hires who will be foundational for the future of the program. Southern Virginia University is beginning the process of hiring a number of continuing status-track faculty members and instructors. We are posting a number of job positions here which we need to fill in the near future. The order and timing of our hiring are based primarily on the strength of the applicants. We anticipate hiring for positions beginning immediately for the Fall 2019 school semester, and leaving open the unfilled positions continuously until all positions have been filled by highly qualified candidates.
There is a great demand in the business world for employees who have modeling/Excel/and data analysis skills across all areas of business. We intend for our program to make a name for itself by the strong analytic, modeling, and interpretive skills of our graduates. To this end, our program has a particular focus on hiring applicants who have very strong modeling/excel/data analysis skills across all of our areas. Our program will holistically reinforce those skills by incorporating them into the curriculum of the majority of our course offerings. It is expected that professors and teachers will help our students develop both the competencies and intuitions to analyze, model, and interpret data in a wide variety of situations. Though not every student will have the desire, or ability, to achieve the highest levels of analytic skill, it is our intention that every student leaves our program with data skills significantly above those of the average business undergraduate. Industry experience is generally a very strong plus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Candidates must have and demonstrate a strong ability and passion for teaching undergraduate students. Given the size and rapid growth of the school, they can also expect to be highly involved in building the business program going forward, including designing new course offerings and curriculum.
We seek an individual for a full-time continuing-status track position in Management Information Systems and Operations. The position requires a doctorate or master’s (or foreign equivalent) granted, or nearly completed, in MIS/Operations or a related field.
A strong candidate will have significant industry and/or academic experience in topics such as documenting, modeling, and analyzing business processes for improvement; identifying requirements for process improvements and technological solutions; quality management and control; and managing operations in a supply chain.
We seek an individual for a full-time continuing-status track position in Marketing. The position requires a doctorate or master’s (or foreign equivalent) granted, or nearly completed, in Marketing or a related field.
A strong candidate will have experience, ability, and teaching interests in Marketing Analytics and other core marketing courses in our curriculum.
We seek an individual for a full-time continuing-status track position in Accounting. The position requires a doctorate or master’s (or foreign equivalent) granted, or nearly completed, in Accounting or a related field. A strong candidate will have extensive experience and skill in industry or academics and will be able to each a variety of advanced accounting courses.
They will oversee instruction of the core accounting courses for all business majors, as well as help develop and teach more advanced accounting courses for students desiring to prepare for a Masters in accountancy.
We seek an individual for a full-time continuing-status track position in Hospitality Management. Southern Virginia University has extensive relationships within the hospitality industry that can provide excellent careers for well-prepared graduates. Strong candidates will have extensive and wide-ranging experience in the hospitality management industry as well as experience, competency, and delight in teaching and training. The position requires a doctorate or master’s (or foreign equivalent) granted, or nearly completed, in Hospitality Management or a related field.
They will help develop the curriculum for and teach the operational skills necessary for our graduates have successful careers and be exceptionally valuable assets to our partners in the hospitality industry, as we intend to build a reputation for excellence among recruiters.
We are in the process of building out a professional sales program within the business program, including joining a professional sales association with direct links to top careers in the professional sales industry. We are seeking an excellent and experienced instructor of professional sales. Industry experience is a must. Topics will include buyer/seller relationships, the professional sales process, training of critical sales skills, and managing a sales force.
All Southern Virginia business majors must take core finance courses. We are seeking an instructor of finance to teach, and help redevelop, the core managerial finance course, as well as help develop and teach more advanced finance courses for students who are interested in preparing for an MFin or eventually taking the CFA exam.
