Southern Virginia University invites applications for a full-time position in mathematics to begin Fall 2018 at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or a related field by August 2018. Candidates with a background in pure mathematics, algebra, or analysis will be given preference.
We seek applicants who can teach and encourage students of diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students and students with varying mathematical preparation. The candidate must have recent experience teaching college-level mathematics and also demonstrate excellence in teaching, with a willingness to incorporate active learning strategies in the classroom. The typical teaching load is 12 credits of undergraduate level mathematics (usually 4 three-credit courses) each semester, from major courses to introductory service courses, including those for educators. Southern Virginia emphasizes excellence in teaching, but responsibilities also include advising, university service, and professional development/scholarly activity.
