T.R. Porter is a professor of Spanish at Southern Virginia University and is currently serving as chair of the division of humanities.
Dr. Porter joined the faculty in 1997. He previously taught at Southern Utah University and the University of Wyoming. He has a Ph.D. in Spanish with a minor in philosophy from Pennsylvania State University. While a graduate student at Penn State, he served as editor of the graduate student journal, El aleph, for two years. At Wyo., he coordinated the language lab and was also involved with the departmental computer lab at Southern Utah University.
At Southern Virginia University, Dr. Porter teaches first- and second-year Spanish. He also teaches upper division courses in language and linguistics, culture and literature. He is the coordinator of foreign languages and coordinator of the Spanish major. He has served on a number of committees.
He resides with his family on ‘Map’s Hill’ in a home that was the first hospital in Buena Vista, Va.
