Lee Falin joined Southern Virginia University in the Fall of 2017 as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science.
After spending several years working in the software industry, Falin discovered his love of teaching and returned to school to finish his Bachelor’s degree through University of Illinois’ online computer science program. He then completed aPh.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology at Virginia Tech. During this time, he continued to work in the commercial software industry, launching and selling two software startups.
Following the completion of his Ph.D., Falin spent two years working with the Ensembl Genomes team at the European Bioinformatics Institute, then taught full-time at BYU-Idaho before coming to Southern Virginia. Falin continues to be involved in the software industry through consulting and research. He is particularly interested in data science, machine learning, and data visualization.
Falin is married to a wonderful woman, and together they homeschool their five amazing children.
