Dr. Jared Lee is an Assistant Professor of Biology and joined the faculty at Southern Virginia University in 2016. He spent two years teaching biology at the Columbus Campus of Georgia Military College, where he was also the Pre-Nursing Program Coordinator. He has lived in a variety of places in the United States including Georgia, Oklahoma, New York, Missouri, and Utah. He also spent two years in China teaching English at both the high school and college levels. He served a Chinese-speaking LDS mission in Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Lee earned a BS and MS in Biology from Brigham Young University and then completed a PhD in Genetics at the University of Georgia. His graduate research focused on the population and conservation genetics in natural populations of freshwater fishes. He has spent time doing fieldwork in Costa Rica, China, the Philippines, and across the United States. In 2011, he was awarded a fellowship from the National Science Foundation to work in a lab at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing for the summer. He has several articles published in the scientific literature from his research.
An avid runner, Dr. Lee regularly competes in road races at varying distances and the occasional sprint triathlons. He lives with his wife and five kids in Buena Vista.
