Bruce L. Olsen and his wife Christine presided over the Boston Massachusetts Mission and as President and Matron of the San Diego Temple. He has served his Church in numerous other positions including bishop, high councilor, stake president, and member of the Young Men General Board. He currently serves as the “mission president” of Zion’s Camp, a summer program for teenagers preparing for missions, and has overseen 10 sessions of the program.
Bruce is the former managing director of public affairs for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He oversaw the LDS Public Affairs Department for nearly 20 years, directing worldwide offices in eleven countries and domestic offices in Washington, D.C., New York City, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. He was responsible for government affairs, community relations, and interfaith and media relations programs.
He also worked at Brigham Young University in a variety of positions, including Assistant to the President for University Relations, Assistant Dean of Admissions and Records, and as Associate Professor in the School of Communications. He received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from BYU, and served as president of BYU’s Alumni Association.
He served as associate professor and as a special assistant to the President at Southern Virginia University where he founded Zion’s Camp. Currently he and his wife are volunteering at Southern Virginia University and Olsen is a member of the University’s Board of Trustees.
He is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and belongs to the Society’s College of Fellows.
