Associate Professor of Mathematics & Mathematics Program Coordinator
Gertrud Kraut is an associate professor of mathematics and mathematics program coordinator at Southern Virginia University.
Dr. Kraut joined the faculty in 2007. A native of Germany, she comes to Southern Virginia University from the University of New Hampshire where she taught mathematics, including an innovative, yearlong course of general physics integrated with calculus. She also was involved with institutional research at UNH, primarily by evaluating the mathematical preparation of first year students entering the college of engineering and physical sciences and developing placement criteria.
Dr. Kraut received the outstanding teaching award at UNH and the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Section of the Mathematical Association of America, April 2000, for the creation and direction of the Texas NExT program, the first regional program established in support of the National Project NExT program.
Dr. Kraut, a numerical analyst, has worked in academia, education-related industry, and oil exploration. While working in oil exploration she had the opportunity to work in the Sichuan province in China.
She and her husband Charles live in Lexington, Va.
