Can three guys really cover thirty-seven Shakespeare plays in less than two hours? That’s the conceit of this hilarious comedy. First performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1987, the show has sky-rocketed to fame in recent years, becoming one of the world’s most popular comedies. The London run alone lasted an astonishing nine years!

You Can’t Take It with You

Performances: November 6, 7, 13, 14
Tickets: $8 general admission; $6 for Southern Virginia students, faculty and staff

This Pulitzer Prize-winning classic from the 1930’s is perhaps the greatest American comedy ever written. Alice Sycamore is getting married, but she’s worried that her fiancé’s rich, straight-laced family won’t approve of her own zany clan. A dinner is arranged, but fireworks ensue when the Kirbys show up on the wrong night and everything goes wrong.

The Secret Garden

Music and Lyrics by Lucy Simon, Book by Marsha Norman
Directed by Robert Stoddard
Performances: February 12, 13, 18, 19, 20
Tickets: $10 general admission; $7 for Southern Virginia students, faculty and staff

This joyous Broadway hit, based on the famous novel by Francis Hodgson Burnett, tells the story of Mary Lennox, an angry and obstinate young orphan sent to live with her reclusive uncle in Yorkshire, England. The gloomy house is full of ghosts and secrets, but when Mary encounters a neglected garden, both she and the garden begin to bloom. Children (over 5) and adults alike will be impacted by the musical’s themes of redemption, forgiveness, love and learning.
