After acceptance to Southern Virginia University, students are encouraged to apply for financial aid to help pay for their education.
Every student who attends Southern Virginia has different financial circumstances. Though the process may vary, Student Financial Services has outlined five simple steps relevant for all students applying for financial aid.
Note: Student should seek and apply for private scholarships as early as their freshman year of high school.
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for federal and state aid. Remember to enter Southern Virginia’s school code (003738) when prompted.
Note: Students should first file their 2011 federal taxes before filing the FAFSA sometime after January 1 of the year they plan to attend.
Southern Virginia will provide you with an estimated Financial Aid Award Letter based on the results of your FAFSA.
To accept your award:
Submit applications for relevant scholarships, grants, and/or loans prior to their respective deadlines and return any requested items to Financial Services.
Note: Virginia residents should remember to submit the VTAG application by July 31.
