The Marriott Scholar program is the most prestigious scholarship offered at Southern Virginia University, recognizing incoming freshmen and transfer students who have excelled in academics, extracurricular activities, leadership, and service. This award emphasizes the attributes of the “leader-servant” as exemplified by Richard E. Marriott and the Marriott Family in whose honor the scholarship is named.
The maximum annual scholarship amount Southern Virginia awards to any student is $10,000. The Marriott scholarship is calculated and added to other Southern Virginia scholarships to bring your total Southern Virginia scholarship amount up to $10,000.
To be eligible for the scholarship, incoming freshmen should have a high school GPA above 3.8 and an SAT score of 1240 or ACT score of 28 OR a high school GPA above 3.6 and an SAT score of 1320 or ACT score of 30. Transfer students should have a college GPA of at least 3.8. Incoming freshmen without an accredited high school transcript should contact their admissions director for eligibility requirements.
Only incoming students can apply for the Marriott Scholarship. The scholarship is an annual award that does not need to be renewed. However, Marriott Scholars must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in order to maintain their scholarship. Scholarship eligibility is evaluated at the beginning of every academic year.
