In the heart of Virginia’s majestic Shenandoah Valley lies the historic campus of Southern Virginia University. The University’s most prominent building, Main Hall, is set on the brow of Seminary Hill in the tranquil City of Buena Vista — a quaint, rural town nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains that is home to 6,000 local residents. Just minutes from the famous Appalachian Trail and the beautiful Maury River, it’s hard to imagine college in a more picturesque setting.
Located three hours southwest of Washington, D.C., Southern Virginia’s campus is near multiple historical sites including Appomattox, Monticello, Jamestown, and Williamsburg. We are also within a day’s drive of important historical sites of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — Susquehanna (6 hrs.), Palmyra (8 hrs.), and Nauvoo (13 hrs.) — and several major East Coast cities — Baltimore (4 hrs.), New York (6 hrs.), Boston (10 hrs.).
From I-81, take exit 188A onto US-60 E toward Buena Vista. After 6 miles, turn right onto US-501 S. Turn left at the first light and the entrance to the university will be immediately on your left. Get Directions from Google Maps.
